Hi Heather,
This is Wendy from the American Red Cross. So sorry a home fire has hit so close to home for you.

There are things you can do to help - you're doing one of them by preventing fire in your own home with working smoke detectors and preparing for one by getting renters insurance and an extinguisher.

If you'd like to do even more, your local Red Cross chapter would love someone like you to volunteer. We respond to about 200 home fires every day across the US and can use all the help we can get making sure those families get back on their feet.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. You can contact me anytime at HarmanW@usa.redcross.org.

You could donate something for each task not completed. (its far away, so its going to be cumulative anyways..) Fine yourself with Monies by donating a dollar per failed task to something. OR you could reward yourself for tasks well done.

You are not a failure. The hardest part of doing something is getting started. You knew this once, but after finishing thesis and getting your degree, you're like, "Now what?". Remember when we went to bally last winter and you'd look at the clock and say okay 5 more minutes, 4 more minutes, 3 more minutes...? Do that when it comes to anything. Just do something....anything and you will feel better. You aren't a loser dammit. I'm not friends with losers. I'm friends with winners. And that's what you are. Who was the first person to get a college degree in their family. You! Now show your sisters and bother where a college degree will get you in life.
